• The United Arab Emirates bought oil directly from the United States in December for the first time, according to federal government data, in a deal that demonstrates the growing influence of the U.S. shale industry on global energy markets. The superior quality of American condensate, a type of very light crude oil, was more suitable for the U.A.E's processing plants than regional grades, a person with knowledge of the matter said.
