Paul H. Tice and the WSJ do a great job here putting the politics of US Oil in perspective. Buried in the gory details you begin to see that the lower regulatory risk, known costs, more certain returns of a mature play may be the only direction E / P s can turn for the next few years. "Fill In" drilling on the more productive HBP leases in the Eagleford seem to fit this mold.

Yes, but at the rate of 95 completions per year with 1750 premium locations, it may take another 18 years before EOG finishes ours. Would be nice to live to see it, but at least the next generation should.
